ABC Engines chooses ADS van Stigt once again as supplier

The Belgian company Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC Engines) has once again chosen ADS van STIGT for the supply of Oil Mist Detectors (OMDs) from the brand Dr E. Horn. With this order, ADS will supply OMDs for 50 engines, further continuing the long-standing cooperation between the two companies. The agreement was reaffirmed with a firm handshake between Jean-Christophe Van Acker (ABC), Erik Ziegler (Dr E. Horn), and Rob van der Linde (ADS van STIGT) at Europort 2023.
“OMDs are an important safety feature for engines”, says Rob van der Linde, Electronics Manager at ADS van STIGT. “Together with Dr Horn, we’ve been supporting ABC Engines with this technology for years, but an order of this scale is still something special.”

Oil Mist Detectors are mandatory under SOLAS regulations for engines above 2,250 kW and/or with a piston diameter greater than 300 mm. Using optical sensors, they continuously monitor the concentration of oil particles in the crankcase and give an early warning if the level becomes too high. These sensors are vital in preventing crankcase explosions and potential onboard fires, thus helping to protect human lives and prevent (significant) material and environmental damage as a result of maritime incidents.
The first deliveries of the Dr Horn OMDs (type MEV282) are already taking place in November 2023, with final deliveries scheduled for the end of 2024.
