700kW at 1800rpm from reduction gears combined with e-motor

On the twenty-second of September we made a successful test voyage with mts Alcor.

Interesting features of this tanker are its diesel electric propulsion system and special reducer gears.

For each ship we supplied two non-selectable Masson W4400 NC reduction gears each driven by a Danfoss PM electric motor delivering 700 kW @ 1.800 rpm.

This type of Masson reducer gear is eminently suitable for vessels with electric propulsion, thanks to, amongst other features, the integrated thrust bearing and the desired gear ratio. Using this type of gearbox makes it possible to use high speed electric motors with a lower torque. These motors are much smaller than slow turning high torque motors making installation much easier and cost effective. The new gearboxes are based on the trusted Masson W4400 reversing gear design.

At this moment work on her, identically equipped, sistership mts Mizar is in full swing to make her ready for delivery as soon as possible. The vessels measure 120 by 11,44 metres and have 6 cargo tanks. Intended navigation area is the river Rhône.

We want to thank  TeamCo Shipyard and all parties involved for the pleasant cooperation.

On behalf of our whole team we wish the owners and the crews many happy and safe voyages.
